About Community Teardowns

Community Teardowns is an independent index of paid and free online communities, read as examples. It currently covers 1,250 communities across Skool, Circle, Mighty Networks and Swarm, with more platforms to follow.

It exists for somebody about to start a community. The communities already running are the best evidence there is of what works: what they charge, how many people pay it, what they sell alongside the community and which channels they grow from. But they are scattered across platforms with limited discovery, and pricing is often only visible after you click through. This index puts the numbers side by side so a decision can be made against them rather than against a guess.

How teardowns are written

Every listing carries a teardown in two parts. The facts panel is computed: the price against the category median, the size against the rest of the category, an upper bound on monthly revenue, the age, the format, the activity and the owner’s public channels all come from the listing data and the category aggregate, with no language model involved. The “what to borrow” lines are chosen from a fixed set by the same numbers.

Where a listing also carries teardown notes, those were written by hand and say so. A note is one editor’s reading of a community from the outside and is not endorsed by, or checked with, the community itself.

How listings are compiled

Listings are compiled from publicly accessible pages on the platforms that host them. We record the community name, description, member count, pricing and the public profile details of the owner. We do not collect or store email addresses, and we do not access anything behind a login or a paywall.

How communities are ranked

Ranking is computed, not editorial. Each community receives a score built from three signals: its member count, its posting activity (weighted towards posts per member, so that an engaged community is not beaten by a larger dormant one), and how complete its listing is. Ties break on member count.

We rank communities so you can find active ones, not just large ones.

No placement is for sale. There is no advertising on this site, no sponsored positions and no paid inclusion. Claiming a listing verifies it; it does not move it up.

What is excluded

Some communities are deliberately not listed. We exclude communities whose primary purpose is sourcing unregulated pharmaceuticals, gambling and adult content. This is an editorial decision rather than a judgement about legality.

If it is your community

You can find your listing and claim it to verify the details and have anything incorrect fixed. If you would rather not be listed at all, use the removal form and we will action it within seven days.

Community Teardowns is operated by Growth Maps Media Ltd. Community names, logos and trademarks belong to their respective owners, and listing here does not imply any affiliation or endorsement in either direction.
