The one-liner
A practice lab for tabletop RPG game masters, hosted by the authors of the Game Master's Handbook series.
What they actually sell
Game Master's Laboratory, run by Jonah Fishel, lives on Skool. Its public pitch: "For TTRPG GMs to learn & practice running excellent games with D&D, Pathfinder, and More." A free tier sits at the front door, with Premium upgrades whose prices are not shown on the public page. Inside sit 7 courses. A formal money-back promise is not spelled out on the about page. The public page keeps the promise practical and specific rather than vague networking talk.
Who pays and why
Hobbyists who want company while they practise, not another lonely tutorial tab. The itch is starting projects and never finishing them alone. They join for peer support and a place to keep practising with others. Game Master's Laboratory is sold as a place to do the work with others, not to collect another login.
Where the members come from
The Skool lander and Jonah Fishel's own teaching appear to be the main acquisition path. Public social links are thin on the about page, so growth reads as community-led rather than a giant media brand. Exact follower counts stay off the about page.
What's holding it back
If live energy fades, members who came for company will treat it as another course tab.
Steal this
Run a hobby community around weekly making together, not only a content library.
Would this work in another niche?
Yes for other skill hobbies with weekly making together. Weak for passive content libraries.
