Notes
Teardown notes
The one-liner
A paid platform and Circle community for private practice therapists in Europe, combining tools and peers.
What they actually sell
It's Complicated, run by Johanne Schwensen, lives on Circle. Its public pitch: "Community for private practice therapists." Membership costs $34.99 a month. It's Complicated combines a secure practice management suite, with an SEO-ready profile, scheduling and billing, unlimited secure video sessions and encrypted messaging, with a community of more than 2,500 therapists. Members get local meetups, online masterclasses, referral networks and access to supervisors and mentors. It has been built by therapists for therapists since 2019 and is free from venture capital pressure.
Who pays and why
Private practice therapists across Europe who want more clients and less isolation. The pain is running a practice alone and juggling admin with client work. They pay for a GDPR-compliant practice management suite plus an active peer community.
Where the members come from
Public Circle discovery copy and Johanne Schwensen's listing appear to be the front door. Linked social proof on the page is thin, so growth reads as brand-and-listing led rather than a giant media funnel. Exact audience sizes beyond the member count on the card stay off the lander.
What's holding it back
Members pay partly for software. If a cheaper tool comes along, the community alone has to hold them.
Steal this
Bundle the software members need with the community, so leaving means losing both.
Would this work in another niche?
Yes for other solo professionals such as coaches, dietitians or physios. Weak for employees who do not run a practice.
