Teardown notes
The one-liner
A Spartanburg small-business community backed by OneSpartanburg and Duke Energy.
What they actually sell
Power Up Spartanburg is a Mighty Network for small business growth across Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Public copy promises monthly topical focus on systems, sales, finances and brand, with prompts and guided activities, weekly tools and conversations, events and peer learning, plus exclusive programmes and challenges for local entrepreneurs. History on the page notes Duke Energy helped launch The Grid in 2023 for small and minority-owned businesses, relaunched in summer 2025 as Power Up Spartanburg with a standalone app. The community is presented through Duke Energy's support and led with OneSpartanburg. Public consumer pricing is not the focus of the civic welcome copy.
Who pays and why
Local owners who want practical help and peers in the same county, not another national guru funnel. The isolation is building alone without a hometown room. They join for monthly focus topics and local connection.
Where the members come from
OneSpartanburg and Duke Energy sponsorship are the institutional growth engines. This is place-based economic development community more than influencer media. Follower-style proof is secondary to civic partnership.
What's holding it back
Sponsored local networks can feel programme-driven. If member-to-member energy stays low between official prompts, owners may treat it as optional newsletter infrastructure.
Steal this
Relaunch a city small-business network with monthly operating themes, a mobile app and a clear sponsor story so local owners know why the room exists.
Would this work in another niche?
Yes for other county or city entrepreneur networks with civic sponsors. Weak for national masterminds with no local density.
