The one-liner
A Desmos-led SAT prep community, free for founding members, with paid live classes above.
What they actually sell
SAT Strategy Lab, run by Alexander Ioncescu, lives on Skool. Its public pitch: "Master the SAT using Desmos." A free tier sits at the front door, with Premium and VIP upgrades above it. Free members get the full Desmos and strategy courses, one free Friday group class and SAT questions answered in the community. The page says free access closes at 500 members, after which new students pay, while early joiners keep free access. Premium adds live group classes every Friday and the replays. Inside sit 6 courses and a dense module library. A formal money-back promise is not spelled out on the about page.
Who pays and why
High school students preparing for the SAT, and their parents, who want a higher score without endless practice tests. The worry is leaving points on the table on test day. They join for Desmos and strategy courses, a Friday group class and answers to SAT questions in the community.
Where the members come from
The Skool lander and Alexander Ioncescu's own teaching appear to be the main acquisition path. Public social links are thin on the about page, so growth reads as community-led rather than a giant media brand. Exact follower counts stay off the about page.
What's holding it back
Test prep has a built-in end date. Once the exam is done, members leave, so the room has to keep finding new students every season.
Steal this
Offer free founding access until a member cap, and tell people openly that later joiners will pay.
Would this work in another niche?
Yes for other standardised tests such as the ACT or GMAT. Weak for learning goals with no exam date.
