The one-liner

A paid Skool academy teaching busy professionals Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Copilot.

What they actually sell

Smart Skills Academy & AI, run by Gemma Coles, lives on Skool. Its public pitch: "Learn Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and AI to save time, work smarter, stand out and never feel behind again." Membership costs $49 a month. Gemma Coles, a Microsoft Office Specialist Master and author, has trained NHS, government and corporate teams. Members get full Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Copilot courses, a skills audit to guide learning, fortnightly live Coffee and Skills sessions, a replay library and prompts, shortcuts and cheat sheets. Inside sit 13 courses and a dense module library. Cancel anytime is part of the risk frame.

Who pays and why

Busy professionals who keep Googling the same formula or feel lost when Copilot comes up. The pain is feeling behind at work and wasting time on tools they use every day. They pay for full Microsoft app and Copilot courses, a skills audit and fortnightly live sessions.

Where the members come from

Gemma Coles's YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and website presence appears to feed the room. The Skool community reads as the member back end for people already drawn to that work. Exact follower counts stay off the public page.

What's holding it back

Office training competes with plenty of free tutorials, so the host's credibility has to carry the price.

Steal this

Start every member with a skills audit, so they study what they need instead of everything.

Would this work in another niche?

Yes for any workplace software, such as Google Workspace or Salesforce. Weak for consumer apps.

Natalie Stuart

From Skool
“I'd already read Gemma's book before joining, so this felt like a natural next step. Really practical, and super easy to select the specific bits you want to learn. I now feel so much more confident using Microsoft and AI in my day to day work. Just go for it!”

Janet Wilson

From Skool
“As a business owner, I already knew the basics of Microsoft, but I wanted to brush up my skills. The PowerPoint content was so helpful. Great content in the classroom, all step by step, plus proper beginner steps into AI, explained in a way that was easy to understand and use straight away. Highly recommended.”

Tim Abbott

From Skool
“Really well written material, clear and easy to follow. Lots of content, I was more interested in AI. I've already shared some of the resources with colleagues. 4 stars only because I'd love to see more advanced AI content added down the line, coding etc”
