Notes
Teardown notes
The one-liner
A Skool club that teaches builders to run local LLMs, agents and RAG on their own hardware.
What they actually sell
Open Source AI Builder's Club, run by Hamish Aman Prakash, lives on Skool. Its public pitch: "For anyone who is done with renting AI." Membership costs $249 a month. Hamish promises an owned AI stack in 90 days. Inside are 26 video courses with day-by-day roadmaps from a first local model to tool-calling agents, a Builder's Vault with a RAG starter, MCP servers, Ollama model files and templates, weekly vault drops and live build calls. Bonuses include daily personal answers to posts and a 200-page book. The page frames the price per day, offers an annual saving, says cancel anytime and warns of a price rise in January 2027. Inside sit 26 courses and a dense module library. Cancel anytime is part of the risk frame.
Who pays and why
Developers and business owners tired of renting AI and paying API bills. They want control of their data and their costs. They pay for 26 video courses, a downloadable builder's vault and live build calls.
Where the members come from
Hamish Aman Prakash's YouTube, LinkedIn and website presence appears to feed the room. The Skool community reads as the member back end for people already drawn to that work. Exact follower counts stay off the public page.
What's holding it back
It is priced high for a community, and daily personal answers from Hamish will be hard to keep up as numbers grow.
Steal this
Ship new downloadable assets every week, so members always have something new to use.
Would this work in another niche?
Yes for any self-hosting movement, such as home servers or open-source finance tools. Weak for mainstream consumer tools.

“I'm fairly new here but I will say...I've been looking for a community involving open weight LLMs for a while so i'm really happy to have found one.it does seem like the latest models are being recently discussed. And there is a lot of great information about how to use tools like OpenWebUI that I have used in the past but wasn't really familiar with some of More impressive features that it comes with. I also love how energetic... The videos are I love the energy and the excitement.”

“If you are looking to build an AI Empire without sacrificing your money, the environment or personal data, this is the place for you. He is an absolute wealth of knowledge and I haven't met a human more passionate about AI, financial freedom and protecting the environment than he is. Its a learning curb, but well worth the journey if you take it.”

“I feel like this group is the unfair advantage. I am a sponge learning from Hamish. I cannot wait to share what I build with the world”

“Absolutely gold! Very resourceful and relevant for anyone interested in owning their AI 😁”
